Batik is an ancient art made with wax resistant dye on fabrics that has long been used in countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, India and Persia.
The city of Osku in Azerbaijan is the main center of batik printing workshops and the main hub of this art-industry in Persia. This design resembled crow feathers and hence became known as crow printing.
In batik printing, all designs and colors are transferred to the fabric using wax and dyeing operations. Silk fabric is mostly used for this purpose. The fabric tarpaulin is covered with wax and both are patterned on the same fabric.
The dyes used for printing are mostly from plant dyes such as rhubarb, spruce, pomegranate peel and turmeric.
