Persian Rugs: Weaving in Saveh
Los Angeles Home of Rugs on Nov 24th 2021
Saveh rugs (alternative name: Mosul rugs) originate from Saveh, a city located in west-central Persia northwest Tafresh. There is a fortified mosque with a unique style, and the minaret was built at the beginning of the twentieth century. This city is well known for its pomegranate. Pomegranate is used both as a fruit and to dye wool because its skin has a particular capability for dying.
There is also carpet but not a lot. Some of these rugs are similar to those woven around Hamadan, and others have a specific design, like curved fruits that might be inspired by pomegranate.
