Persian Rugs: Weaving in Ravar

Los Angeles Home of Rugs on Nov 2nd 2021

An Important rug-weaving center of Kerman, Rafsanjan, Sirjan, and Mahan is a village by the name of Ravar that many erroneously call Lavar. It's situated in the northeast of Kerman, the rugs of this village that are very famous are known as Kerman Ravar.

The quality and the fineness of Kerman Ravar rugs are divided into four categories, which are generally known in the market by the double numbers 35/70, 40/80, 45/90, and 50/100. The explanation of these numbers is that the figures 70, 80, 90, and 100 represent the number of warps in seven centimeters of the length in a rug. As each knot is tied over two warp threads, a rug of 35/70 is 35x35 knots in 49 (7x7) square centimeters. And a rug of 40/80 is 40x40 knots in 49 sq. cm. and so on. On the basis of this classification, the numbers of knots in each square meter in these groups of Kerman rugs are as follows:

1st group 35/70: Number of Knots 2,500

2nd group 40/80: Number of Knots 3,260

3rd group 45/90: Number of Knots 4,130

4th group 50/100: Number of Knots 5,100
