Persia has long been known as a fount of beautiful and legendary rugs. Her centers of rug weaving, since ancient times, have produced thousands of rugs and carpets, many of them precious and valuable.
In a great area of Persia, for climatic, demographic, and economic reasons the art, or as it is called today, industry has developed very little.
The history of its people and the natural habitat in which they have evolved. It is usually one specific area that a particular talent reaches a level of excellence beyond compare. In the course of time, many art forms in Persia have reached remarkable levels of splendor but none as outstanding as the art of rug weaving.
Here the Persian artist's exquisite taste and master are simply unrivaled. The reason why this art form has flourished in Persia is to be traced in the nature of the Persian people and the particular climatic and geographical conditions of the land.
In both villages and tribes carpets of various sizes are woven almost exclusively by women and young girls, while in city workshops this is carried out by both men and women.
